Outpatient procedures for colonoscopy
Therapeutic colonoscopy
We can perform various procedures as part of a therapeutic colonoscopy. These include

Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR):
Complex intestinal polyps can be removed by targeted and gentle removal of the mucous membrane. Larger, flat polyps can also be removed on an outpatient basis thanks to the possibility of subsequent monitoring in our recovery room.

Endoscopic full wall resection:
Endoscopic full-wall resection using Ovesco’s Full-Thickness Resection Device (FTRD) is an innovative method for removing complex intestinal polyps and other lesions in the bowel. This technique allows us to remove the entire intestinal wall in a specific area, which is particularly advantageous for larger polyps or polyps that are more difficult to reach. Unfortunately, statutory health insurance companies do not currently cover the costs of treatment. We are therefore currently only able to offer this procedure to privately insured patients.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
What can be removed during outpatient procedures?
During mucosal resection, complex intestinal polyps can be removed by targeted and gentle removal of the mucosa.
In contrast, endoscopic full-wall resection allows larger polyps or polyps that are more difficult to reach to be removed, as the entire bowel wall is removed in a specific area.
How does endoscopic full-thickness wall resection work?
Ovesco’s FTRD technology uses a special endoscope equipped with a cutting device and a clip. The clip is first placed around the lesion to be removed in order to fix the bowel wall. The cutting device is then activated to resect the entire wall. The clip remains in place to close the wound and promote rapid healing.
What are the advantages of endoscopic full-wall resection?
- PrecisionEndoscopic full-thickness resection enables precise removal of lesions that are difficult to reach with conventional methods.
- SafetyFixing the bowel wall with the clip minimizes the risk of complications such as bleeding or perforation.
- OutpatientEndoscopic full-thickness wall resection can be performed on an outpatient basis in many cases, which means a quick recovery and short distances for patients.
How do I prepare for the procedure?
You need to cleanse the bowel with a special solution to ensure optimal vision.
Is the procedure painful?
Thanks to light sedation (twilight sleep), most patients feel nothing of the examination.
Can I go home immediately after the procedure?
After a short monitoring period, you can leave the practice – but only if accompanied, as you are not allowed to actively participate in road traffic due to the sedation.
