Colonoscopy
Prevention and diagnosis with modern endoscopy
What is a colonoscopy?
When is a colonoscopy necessary?
A colonoscopy can be useful for various reasons:
- Screening examination – for the early detection of intestinal polyps (benign growths), which can develop into colon cancer if left untreated.
- Clarification of symptoms – In case of persistent abdominal pain, blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss or suspected chronic inflammatory bowel disease (e.g. Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis).
- Treatment of certain tissue changes – With special techniques such as endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), conspicuous changes can be removed directly.

Example: Detection of intestinal polyps
